Our History

Chartered in 1867, we are one of Vermont’s oldest insurance agencies. Our agency was among the first to be licensed by the state’s first domestic company, The Vermont Mutual Insurance Company of Montpelier. Headquartered in Brattleboro, Vermont, The Richards Group has grown to currently serve the needs of more than 10,000 families and businesses in Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Over the years we have acquired a number of highly regarded local agencies. In addition to our offices at Harris Place in Brattleboro, customers may visit our agencies on Main Street in Wilmington (Vermont Insurance/Barber & Jarvis) and Village Square in Bellows Falls (Powers Walker Insurance).
